GC Advantage (Handicap) Singles One Day Tournament 2023
Winner receives The 'Yellow Ball' Trophy
The top 4 finishers qualify or the National Finals of the ALL ENGLAND HANDICAP (a National Competition)
Kevin Ward won his second trophy in a week when he added our Advantage Singles tournament to his national C-Level tournament win (see the 26 April item below).
Ward dropped a morning block game to David Channon, who had an excellent tournament himself today.
In the morning blocks, Rodger Goldring came through unscathed which really was quite something given that he played successive games conceding the full -4 : 2 advantage to his opponents and he was joined by the also undefeated David Young and also Carol Wordsworth and Christine Searle.
The other two blocks both had ties with three in each block on two wins, so net hoops had to be calculated to separate the six hopefuls.
Carol Huntington and Dee McKibbin came through block A, ahead of Patricia Mulcahy who missed out, while in Block B Ward and Channon made the quarter-finials at the expense of Ian Norris.
There were comfortable quarter-final wins for Wadsworth, Searle, McKibbin and of course Ward, over Huntington, Channon, Young and Goldring respectively.
Ward had to work a bit for his 7 4 semi-final success over Wadsworth but the on-form Mckibbin sailed past Searle 7-2.
Ward established an early lead in the final against McKibbin and the latter did will to keep pace with the favourite's solid hoop running.
Eventually, Ward got home by the slimmest of margins 7-6, and with it came the White Ball trophy and qualification for the end of season 'Grass Rotes' competition.
